The Government of Uttar Pradesh on September 26, 2023, issued a notification regarding variable dearness allowance payable in 74 scheduled employments under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.
The following has been stated: -
•The basic wage and variable dearness allowance shall not be less than 1/26 and the hourly rate shall not be less than 1/6 of the daily rate.
•In pursuance of the above, the All India Consumer Price Index for the employees employed in the following 74 employments has increased from an average of 216 points in the base year for the months of July 2012 to December 2012 to an average point of 386 in the months of January 2023 to June 2023.
•Variable dearness allowance for the period from October 01, 2023, to March 03, 2024, will be calculated as in the following illustration:

Example - Variable dearness allowance for the unskilled category employees getting a wage of Rs 5750/ (386-216) X 5750= Rs.4525/- per month
