The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on December 07, 2023, notified regarding the extension of time period for compliance of the provision of a warning statement for 'Pan Masala' with reference to the direction dated May 22, 2023, issued vide F. No. REG-17/1/2023- Regulation-FSSAI wherein the enforcement of 'Note' i.e. "The warning statement must cover 50% of front-of-pack of the label" in Schedule-II of Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Second Amendment Regulations, 2022 was deferred for 3 months from the date of enforcement i.e. May 01, 2023.
In this context, representations have been received from associations, federations and industry requesting an extension of the time period for compliance with the aforementioned 'Note' amendment to utilize/exhaust the packaging material inventory.
After due consideration, it has been decided to further defer the enforcement of "Note" for 6 months with effect from November 01, 2023.
