The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on December 19, 2023, issued the Offshore Wind Energy Lease Rules, 2023.
The following provisions have been stated:
• Installation and commissioning of offshore wind energy under a lease:
No person or entity shall install offshore wind energy projects or offshore transmission projects, except under a Lease granted under these rules.
• Regulatory Mechanism:
The Central Government may utilise the services of the National Institute of Wind Energy, an autonomous body for matters related to wind energy.
• Date of effect of the lease:
Every lease shall be effective from the date specified in the lease agreement.
This notification will come into force from December 19, 2023.
