The Spices Board on December 18, 2023, Compiled the SPS and TBT notification by the WTO Member countries, which could potentially impact India's export of spices and spice products pertaining to Spices.
The following has been stated:
• TBT Measures that could potentially impact the Indian Spice Sector:
1. Notification No: G/TBT/N/CHN/447/Add.2 dt. 15 September 2023,
China has modified the national standard on Requirements for Restricting Excessive Package Foods and Cosmetics.
2. Notification No: G/TBT/N/USA/1637/Add.1 dt. 20 January 2023,
The United States of America (USA) has issued a final rule amending regulations to strengthen oversight and enforcement of the production, handling, and sale of organic agricultural products.
• SPS Measures that could potentially impact the Indian Spice Sector:
1. Notification No: G/SPS/N/USA/3427 dt 09 October 2023,
The United States of America (USA) has proposed to impose a limit of 0.5 ppm for the pesticide Cypermethrin for Pepper.
2. Notification No: G/SPS/N/USA/3420 dt 06 September 2023,
United States of America has proposed to impose a limit of 0.4 ppm for the pesticide Glufosinate, for the Rapeseed group (in. mustard seeds).
