MoCAFPD notified regarding the Compliance of Packaging of Sugar in jute packaging material

Commercial ComplianceThe Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAFPD) on December 21, 2023, issued the notification regarding the Compliance of Packaging of Sugar in jute packaging material as per provision of jute Packaging Material (Compulsory Use in Packing Commodities) Act, 1987.

The following has been stated namely: -

• The sugar mills were advised for strict compliance of 20% of the total production of Sugar to be mandatorily packed in the jute packaging material and the sugar mills associations i.e. ISMA and NFCSF were also directed to issue advisory to all sugar mills for strict compliance of mandatory jute packaging of 20% of the total production of Sugar.

• All sugar mills are hereby directed to comply with the directions issued by this Directorate for mandatory jute packaging of 20% of the total production of Sugar and furnish the information thereof to this Directorate through email at [email protected] and [email protected]

• Non-receipt of the information will be viewed seriously and will attract a penalty in the form of a deduction of monthly domestic release quota of sugar.

• Also, all sugar mills are directed to fill in the information related to jute packaging in the P-ll form on the NSWS portal by January 10, 2024.
