The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) on January 03, 2024, issued amendments to Chapter ll-2 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974 as modified by the protocol of 1988 relating thereto and its applicability on Fire Safety Systems.
The IMO has issued various amendments to chapter ll-2 of SOLAS related to fire safety systems from time to time which is annexed at 'Annexure- 1". As defined in the Merchant Shipping Act, such amendments to the convention are already in effect and applicable to Indian vessels.
The stakeholders are therefore required to be guided by this order towards compliance with the provisions to give full effect to the lnternational convention for the Safety of Life at Sea and the mandatory codes.
