The Government of India (GoI) on December 08, 2023, issued the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2022 to further amend the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Section 13 which states “Extent of effectiveness of licences, to drive motor vehicles” the following proviso shall be inserted after sub-section (5): -
“Provided that the license authority, after physical test in the testing yard shall issue the licence after successful trial only”
• Section 72 which states “Grant of stage carriage permits” in sub-section (2), the proviso shall be omitted
• Section 163 which states “Scheme for payment of compensation in case of hit and run motor accidents” sub-section (2) shall be omitted
• Section 182A which states “Punishment for offences relating to construction and maintenance of vehicles” of the principal Act shall be omitted.
