The Government of Tamil Nadu on January 31, 2024, issued the Draft Notification of Revision of the Minimum Rates of Wages for Employment in Hosiery Manufactory and Knitwear Manufactory
The following has been stated namely: -
•The following minimum wages for employment have been fixed namely: -
(a) Cutting - Rs. 8098
(b) Tailoring - Rs. 8098
(c) Ironing - Rs. 8098
(d) Packing - Rs. 8098
(e) Fabrication - Rs. 8098
(f) Checking – Rs.5434
(g) Labelling – Rs. 4990
(h) Hand folding – Rs. 4768
(i) Damage – Rs. 4635
(j) Fold and tie like Assistance - Rs. 4546
• It states that in addition to the minimum rates of basic wage fixed, the employees shall be paid dearness allowance as indicated as follows namely: -
(i) The dearness allowance is linked to the Average Chennai City Consumer Price Index Number for the year 2010, that is, 161 points (with base year 2001 = 100), and for every rise of one point over and above 161 points, an increase of Rs.28 (Rupees twenty eighty only) per month shall be paid as dearness allowance.
(ii) The dearness allowance shall be calculated on the first April of every year on the basis of the average of the indices for the preceding twelve months, namely, from January to December.
(iii) The first calculation shall, thus, be effective from the date of publication of this Notification in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette, based on the average of Chennai City Consumer Price Index Number for the previous year.
• It states that Where the nature of work is the same, no distinction in the payment of wages shall be made between men and women employees.
• It states that Wherever the existing wages are higher than the minimum wages fixed herein, the same shall be continued to be paid.
