Labour ComplianceThe Parliament on February 02, 2024, issued the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill, 2024, to further amend the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

The following amendments have been stated:

• In section 86, which states “Trial of election petitions”, in sub-section (7), for the words "endeavour shall be made to conclude the trial within six months", the words "shall be concluded within six months", have been substituted.

• In Section 116A, which states “Appeals to Supreme Court”, after sub-section (2), the following new sub-section shall be inserted, namely:

"(3) Every appeal preferred under sub-section (2) shall be disposed of within 6 months from the date of its filing and the proceedings shall be conducted on a day-to-day basis." 

This bill shall come into force at once.
