The Ministry of Steel on February 08, 2024, issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, in supersession of the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020.
The following provisions have been stated:
• Compulsory use of Standard Mark:
(1) Every steel and steel product specified in Schedule 1 shall bear the Standard Mark under a licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme–I of Schedule–II, which states “Conformity assessment scheme for Grant of licence to use or apply Standard Mark on goods and articles as per Indian Standard” to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
(2) The sub-standard or defective steel and steel products, that do not conform to the specified standard, shall be disposed off as scrap in such a way so that there is no violation of the provisions of clause (b) of sub-section (1) of section 17 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
• Certifying and enforcement authority:
The Bureau of Indian Standards shall be the certifying and enforcing authority with respect of the steel and steel products and the goods and articles specified in this Order.
• Penalty for contravention:
Any person who contravenes any of the provisions of this Order shall be punishable under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
