The Bar Council of India (BCI) on February 06, 2024, issued a notification regarding compliance on Verification of Law Degree Certificates without charging any fee and without any undue delay.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The following was the judgment by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in the Writ Petition (Civil) No 82 of 2023, Ajay Shankar Srivastava vs. Bar Council of India & Anr:
"All Universities and Examination Boards shall verify the genuineness of the educational certificates without charging any fee for the purpose of verification. The requisitions made by the Bar Councils shall be carried out without undue delay, and the reports of the verification shall be submitted expeditiously."
• Non-compliance may have severe consequences including contempt of court action.
