The Government of Karnataka on February 15, 2024, issued the Karnataka Souharda Sahakari (Amendment) Bill, 2024 to further amend the Karnataka Souharda Sahakari Act, 1997
The following has been amended namely: -
• The section 2 which states “Definitions”, for sub-clause (e1), the following shall be substituted namely: -
“(e1) “Co-Operative Election Wing” means “Co-Operative Election Winǵ created under section 39AA of the Karnataka Co-operative Societies Act, 1959 and working under the control of the Registrar of the Karnataka Co-operative Societies”.
• In Section 20 which states “Constitution of the Board” in clause (1), -
(i) In the first proviso the words “consisting of individuals as members and having members from such class or category of persons” shall be omitted.
(ii) after the proviso as so amended, the following proviso shall be inserted, namely:-
“Provided further that, in case of primary co-operative such reservation shall be made on the board having members from such class or category of persons.
