The Government of Assam on January 12, 2024, issued a notification to suspend the operation of Sections 6, 9, 10 and 11 of the Shops & Establishment Act, 1971, throughout the State of Assam during the following festivals for 70 (Seventy) days i.e. on the occasions as mentioned in the Table during the year 2024.
The Shops and Establishments will remain open for 70 (Seventy) days subject to the condition that the employees shall be paid compensation for overtime work and for work on weekly off days by the employers concerned.
