The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on February 14, 2024, notified regarding the Dust mitigation from roads, pathways, and open areas along Right of Way (ROW).
The following has been stated:
• Management of Dust from Roads and Open areas:
Recognizing that dust from roads and open areas contributes significantly to the poor air quality in the region, the Commission issued an Advisory followed by a Direction to all the road-owning agencies in NCR to set up "Dust Control and Management Cells (DCMCs)' for monitoring and implementation of various dust control measures in road construction projects and during routine upkeep of roads and also from open areas.
Directions issued to the 62 DCMCs constituted in the entire NCR focus inter alia on activities as under:
(i) Deployment of adequate numbers of anti-smog guns particularly in road/flyover/bridge and related construction projects,
(ii) Optimum utilization of road-sweeping machines
(iii) Scientific disposal of dust collected in designated sites/landfills
(iv) Sprinkling of water on roads/Row to suppress dust, especially after mechanized sweeping
(v) Augmentation of the capacity of mechanized sweeping and sprinkling
(vi) Properly maintained and pot-hole-free roads
