The Directorate General Shipping (DGS) on February 19, 2024, issued amendments to STCW 78.
The following amendments have been stated:
• It intends to issue guidance concerning the amendments that entered into force since the notification of Merchant Shipping (Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) Rules, 2014.
• It has stated that the seafarers, shipping companies, maritime training institutes and other stakeholders are therefore required to be guided by this circular and earlier circular/notices towards compliance with the provisions to give full effect to the Merchant Shipping (Standard of Training, Certification and watch keeping for Seafarers) Rules, 2014 and as amended.
