The Government of Kerala on February 02, 2024, issued the Kerala Municipality (Amendment) Bill, 2024 to further amend the Kerala Municipality Act, 1994
The following has been amended namely: -
• In section 58 which states “Power the Government to issue direction to Municipality” after the words and symbol “welfare programs,” the words and symbol “waste management,” shall be inserted.
• After section 325 which states “Latrines to afford Privacy” of the principal Act and above the heading “Management of waste ”, “CHAPTER XVIA” shall be inserted.
• In Section 326 which states “Municipality to arrange for the removal of rubbish, solid wastes, and filth” shall be amended as follows namely: -
(i) for sub-section (1a), the following sub-section shall be substituted, namely:-
“(1a) All the duties, responsibilities, and functions of the municipality pertaining towaste management as provided in this chapter the rules made under this Act, and in the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (Central Act 29 of 1986), and the rules made thereunder, shall vest with the council, and the council shall discharge its duties, responsibilities, and functions through the Secretary.”
