The Government of Tamil Nadu on February 22, 2024, issued the Tamil Nadu Panchayats (Sixth Amendment) Bill, 2024, to further amend the Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act, 1994.
The following amendments have been stated:
• In section 160, which states “Permission for the construction of factories and the installation of machinery”, for the expression “panchayat union council”, the expression “Inspector” shall be substituted.
• In section 161, which states “Power of Government to make Rules in respect of the grant and renewal of licences and permissions”:
o Sub-section (2) shall be omitted;
o In sub-section (4), for the expression “panchayat union council”, the expression “Inspector” shall be substituted.
