The Government of Tamil Nadu on February 22, 2024, issued the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2024 to further amend the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation) Act, 1987.
The following has been amended namely: -
• Section 33 which states “Special provision where there is a delay in the reconstitution of the new market committee, etc.” the following has been substituted namely: -
“Provided that the period specified in such order may, for special reasons to be recorded in writing by the Government, be extended from time to time but such order shall not remain in force for more than thirteen years and six months in the aggregate”
• Notwithstanding anything contained in the principal Act, every person exercising the powers and discharging the functions of a Special Officer of the market committees, with effect on and from November 30, 2023, shall be deemed to have been appointed as such Special Officers.
This shall be deemed to have come into force on November 30, 2023.
