The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) on March 07, 2024, issued the Electrical Appliances for Kitchen (Quality Control) Order, 2023.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The Bureau of Indian Standards shall be the certifying and enforcing authority
• Electrical Appliances for the Kitchen shall conform to the corresponding Indian Standards mentioned which are 302 (Part 2/Sec 9): 2009 and 302 (Part 2/Sec 31): 2009 and shall bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018:
Provided that nothing in this order shall apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export
• Any person who contravenes the provisions of this order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
• The title of the standards for Electrical Appliances for the Kitchen are as follows: -
1. 302 (Part 2/Sec 9): 2009 – Safety of household and similar electrical appliances - particular requirements - toasters, grills, roasters, and similar appliances
2. 302 (Part 2/Sec 31): 2009 – Safety of household and similar electrical appliances - particular requirements - range hoods
It shall come into force on the expiry of six months from March 07, 2024
