Industry Specific ComplianceThe Indian Nursing Council (INC) on March 06, 2024, issued the Indian Nursing Council {Nurse Practitioner in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing (NPMH) - Postgraduate Residency Program} Regulations, 2023.

The following provisions have been stated:

• Objectives

On completion of the program, the Mental Health/Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will be able to

o Assume responsibility and accountability to promote mental health and provide competent care to persons with mental illness along with appropriate family care in the community and clinical care settings including wellness centres.

o Demonstrate clinical competence/expertise in providing mental health care which includes diagnostic reasoning, comprehensive monitoring and therapies.

o Apply knowledge and principles of theory, psychopathology, psychopharmacology and evidence-based practices in implementing therapies/interventions in mental health care. Demonstrate skills in prescribing based on standing orders.

o Identify the mental health conditions and carry out interventions to stabilize and restore the patient’s health and rehabilitate back in society.

o Collaborate with other mental health care professionals in the mental health care team, across the continuum of care.

This notification will come into force from March 06, 2024.
