The Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers (MoC&F) on March 14, 2024, issued the Revised Guidelines for the Scheme for "Strengthening of Pharmaceuticals Industry (SPI).
The following has been stated namely: -
• It specifies that the Department of Pharmaceuticals has combined the existing three scheme guidelines in a single scheme guideline, which were Assistance to Pharmaceutical Industry for Common Facilities (APICF), Pharmaceutical Technology Upgradation Assistance Scheme (PTUAS), and Pharmaceutical Promotion and Development Scheme (PPDS).
• It defines the objective of this scheme as to elevate India's pharmaceutical sector by supporting infrastructure enhancement, production facility upgrades, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to ensure global competitiveness and sustainable growth.
•It sets out the Scheme Steering Committee (SSC) and its functions to oversee the effective implementation, evaluation, monitoring, decision-making, and modification of the scheme, convening at least once every three months.
•It also specifies that unused budget allocations for one component of the scheme can be reallocated to other components with approval from the Secretary of Pharmaceuticals.
