The Government of Maharashtra on March 15, 2024, issued the guidelines regarding compliance of Maharashtra State Policy for Transgender in Universities and Higher Education Institutions.
These guidelines aim to provide the following namely: -
• It provides that a Monitoring Committee shall be established to address issues such as bias, discrimination, mental harassment, sexual exploitation, and violence against transgender in universities, self-aided universities, non-profit universities, and integrated colleges.
•It states that whenever a higher education institution refuses admission based on gender, they shall be subject to disciplinary action under the pertinent rules and regulations governing such institutions.
• It specifies that initiatives shall be undertaken to promote equal status, respect, and integration of the transgender within colleges and universities, fostering a culture of inclusivity and instilling human values among students and faculty members towards the transgender.
•It mandates that in the Southern Colleges/Institutes, independent rooms in hostels for transgender shall be allocated.
