The Finance Department, Union Territory of Ladakh on March 12, 2024, issued the draft Excise Policy 2024-25.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The objectives of the policy are namely: -
o To encourage the transition from high to low alcoholic content beverages
o To check bootlegging/smuggling of liquor and narcotic drugs in the Union Territory of Ladakh from neighbouring States/Union Territories
o To provide a choice of liquor brands and places for consumption to its consumers and a level playing field to all the stakeholders
o To enable effective, efficient, and equitable revenue collection through transparency and accountability in tax administration and detection of tax evasion by ensuring all liquor available in the Union Territory of Ladakh is sourced and sold through legal channels.
• This shall come into force on April 01, 2024, and will continue to remain in force till March 31, 2025
• Suggestions/ feedback/comments by the stakeholders/ general public may be sent by or before March 19, 2024, up-to 11 :00 AM at [email protected].In case any stakeholder intends to submit suggestions/feedback in person, he/she may submit the same by or before March 19, 2024 up-to 11:00 AM in the office of Excise & Taxation Officer, Excise Range, Leh-Kargil.
