Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAH&D) on March 16, 2024, issued guidelines for the establishment and operation of Nucleus Breeding Centre and Broodstock Multiplication Centres in India.

The following has been stated: -

•These guidelines lay down norms and procedures to govern the establishment and operation of Nucleus Breeding Centres and Broodstock Multiplication Centres in the coastal areas for the production of disease-free broodstocks.

•The Nucleus Breeding Centres and Broodstock Multiplication Centres shall be established to increase production and productivity of the coastal aquaculture sector in India by any existing producers of specific pathogen-free or specific pathogen tolerant or specific pathogen-resistant broodstock as well as those involved in domestication and breeding programs of any potential candidate species for coastal aquaculture either from India or from overseas either independently or through a joint venture with the local partner from India.

•The prior permission for establishing the Nucleus Breeding Centres or Broodstock Multiplication Centres upon an application made under rule,11 of the said rules, shall be granted by the Central Government in the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying, based on the recommendations of a Project Screening Committee.

•The Nucleus Breeding Centre or Broodstock Multiplication Centre may import the source material either Broodstock or parent post-larvae as the case may be, including those required for sentinel trials, as the case may be from the designated empanelled supplier of the respective Nucleus Breeding Centre or Broodstock Multiplication Centre every month subject to the availability of quarantine space at the aquatic quarantine facility.

They shall come into force from March 18, 2024.
