The Government of Delhi on March 14, 2024, issued the Delhi Solar Energy Policy, 2023.
The following has been stated:
• Objectives:
o To establish Delhi as a leading state in solar adoption and reduce its reliance on conventional fossil-fuel energy, thereby reducing air pollution and combating climate change.
o To minimize average electricity prices while improving energy security by adopting solar to meet Delhi’s growing electricity demand and peak loads.
o To provide access to solar across all consumers of Delhi to help save on their electricity bills and create avenues for income generation.
o To generate green jobs within Delhi and promote the training of Delhi’s youth through skill development programs to support solar deployment in the State.
• Target Capacity:
The Delhi Solar Energy Policy 2023 envisages achieving the following targets by 2026-27:
o A total of 4500 of installed solar capacity which shall include 750 MW of rooftop solar within the State and around 3750 of utility-scale solar from outside the State.
o It shall be endeavoured that the RPO target compliance shall be achieved through a significant increase in Solar power.
This notification will come into force from March 14, 2024, and shall remain valid and in operation for the next 3 years unless superseded or modified by another policy.
