The Government of Lakshadweep on February 09, 2024, issued the Lakshadweep Co-operative Society Rules, 2023.
These will extend to the entire Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
The following provisions have been stated:
• Application for Registration:
Every application for registration of a society under sub-section (1) of section 8 shall be in Form A and shall be accompanied by:
o A certificate from a bank or banks stating the credit balance in favour of the proposed society;
o A list of persons who have contributed to the share capital, together with the amount contributed by each of them and the admission fee paid by them;
o The plan sets out details of how the functioning of the society will be financially strengthened and where the plan envisages the holding of immovable property by the society, the immovable property proposed to be purchased or transferred to the society. details of;
o Such other documents as may be specified in the model bye-laws, if any, made by the Registrar.
o Any other document specified by the Registrar from time to time.
• Refusal of registration:
Where a society does not provide the information in respect of the society required by the Registrar or does not satisfy any of the conditions prescribed in the Regulation or these rules, the Registrar may refuse to register that society.
This notification will come into force from February 09, 2024.
