The Ministry of Power (MoP) on April 02, 2024, issued a notification regarding the Steps being taken by the Government to meet the Summer Electricity Demand in the country.
The following has been stated namely, -
• It states that the Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy reviewed thermal power plants' partial outage status, aimed to maximize available capacity and reduce outages further with suggested measures.
• It also states that the Minister directed to review planned maintenance for 1.7 GW in April and 6 GW - 9 GW in June, aimed to schedule outages during the monsoon season, while ensuring thermal generating stations offer un-requisitioned/surplus power in exchanges as per rules, with regular compliance monitoring and issuance of notices for violations.
• It specifies that the Minister has directed the mandate of a uniform technical minimum loading of 55% of unit capacity for all coal-based power generators, similar to Inter-State Generating Stations and Regional Load Despatch Centres, to ensure grid safety and reliability, and extended Section 11 directions for imported coal-based power plants until September 30, 2024.
