The Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) on April 24, 2024, issued a notification regarding rationalising parking charges for private vehicles in NCR.
The following has been stated: -
• A significantly high contribution from the transport sector to the overall air pollution load in the entire NCR, particularly during the winter season needs no emphasis. As part of the air pollution control efforts arising from this sector parking policy needs to be prioritized as a demand management measure in the NCR.
• To abate air pollution through abnormally large numbers of private vehicles plying in Delhi-NCR, the ULBs and other agencies concerned are advised to firm up the issue in right earnest and the exercise of disincentivizing private vehicles by way of rationalizing the parking charges be completed and implemented expeditiously by August 30, 2024, and a compliance report is submitted to the Commission.
