UT of Chandigarh notified regarding the amendment in the older notification related to battery operated vehicle

Industry Specific ComplianceThe Administrator, Union Territory of Chandigarh on April 26, 2024, notified regarding the amendment in the older notification related to battery operated vehicle.

The following has been stated namely: -

• It states that the words "battery operated vehicle" shall be substituted with the words "Pure Electric Vehicle".

• It specifies that "pure electric vehicle" shall include battery-operated vehicles powered by electric power only".

• It also states that a two-wheeled pure electric vehicle shall be considered as a motor vehicle if verified and authorized by a testing agency, subject to specific conditions such as:-

   o the vehicle must be equipped with an electric motor having thirty-minute power less than 0.25 K.W,

   o maximum speed of the vehicle must be less than 25 Kmph,

   o vehicle must be fitted with suitable brakes and retro reflective devices, such as one white reflector in the front and one reflector at the rear,

   o unladen weight (excluding battery weight) of the vehicle must not be more than 60 Kgs,

   o in case of a pedal assisted vehicle equipped with an auxiliary electric motor, the thirty minute power of the motor is less than 0.25KW, whose output must be progressively reduced and finally cut off as the vehicle reaches the speed of 25 km per hour, or sooner, if the cyclist stops pedalling.
