The Animal Husbandry Department of Rajasthan on May 01, 2024, issued an advisory for the protection of cows maintained in cowsheds from heat and heat waves.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It is stated that to protect the cows from sunlight and heat, the cowshed operators shall arrange for adequate shade for the kept cows and to protect the shed from the warmth of hot winds, it shall be covered with tarpaulin or gunny sack.
• It is also stated that the Gaushala management shall arrange an adequate quantity of fodder, chaff, animal feed, and clean water for the cows.
• It is specified that there shall be proper arrangements for treatment of sick and disabled cows under the supervision of relevant veterinary personnel and special care shall be taken for pregnant and helpless cows in cow shelters.
• It is mentioned that the carcass of dead cattle shall be disposed of in a safe and respectable manner.
