The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAFPD) on April 30, 2024, issued a notification regarding the production of sugar by vacuum pan process.
The following has been stated: -
•Every producer of sugar by vacuum pan process, shall hold white/refined sugar stock tentatively till May 31, 2024, until further order, as per the following: -
Opening stock as of May 01, 2024, Plus (+) Production during the month of May 2024 till May 31, 2024, minus (-) quantity not exceeding the figures as mentioned in the table below.
•The group sugar-producing companies having more than one sugar-producing unit may maintain the stock as defined in Para (1) of this Order, either unit-wise or group as a whole.
•The sugar-mill-wise maximum quantity of white/refined sugar for domestic sale and dispatch during the month of May 2024 as given in column (4) of the table, has been worked out on the basis of notional Stock as of April 30, 2024.
•All Sugar mills are informed that all sugar mills have to register and fill online P-II on the National Single Window System (NSWS) portal. If the sugar mill does not fill in online information on the NSWS portal for the month of April 2024 by May 10, 2024, the domestic quota for June 2024 will not be released to the mills. All the sugar mills/distilleries are informed that information relating to ethanol production from B- Heavy, Sugar Syrup, and Sugarcane Juice shall also be filled on the NSWS portal in the P-II form itself.
•Apart from the above, all the sugar mills are directed to ensure the compliance of mandatory packaging of 20% of sugar in jute bags under the Jute Packaging Material (Compulsory Use in Packing Commodities) Act, 1987 and submit the information thereof in P-II proforma on NSWS portal.
•Any violation of this order would attract the penal provisions under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, as amended from time to time.
