The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAFPD) on May 13, 2024, issued the Draft Legal Metrology (General) (Amendment) Rules, 2024, to further amend the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that all the Radar equipment for the measurement of the speed of vehicles which will be installed after publication of this notification shall be verified and stamped within one year and which are already installed shall be verified and stamped as and when their re-verification shall become due.
• It states that under Schedule 8 “Specifications for Measuring Instruments”, Part XI shall be inserted "Radar equipment for the measurement of the speed of vehicles”.
• It states that Part XI shall be applicable to microwave Doppler radar equipment for the measurement of traffic speed on roads.
• It specifies that in radars useable without data recording, the indicators shall be readable by two operators, the speed range shall include at least the range of 30 km/hr and 150 km/hr, and it shall be well and solidly built.
• It specifies that the parts of the radar that are exposed to the weather shall be dust-proof and splash-proof when all accessories are fixed.
