The Government of Uttar Pradesh on April 29, 2024, issued a notification regarding the rescue of animals at cow shelters and the purchase of straw due to the ongoing heat wave in the state.
The following has been stated: -
•There is a possibility of summer and heat wave outbreaks in the state.
In view of the above, the following action should be taken while ensuring that proper arrangements are made for fodder, water, and shed for the animals in the cow shelter sites: -
1-The ponds made in the cow shelter sites should be regularly filled with fresh water. If there are tube wells, they should be operated regularly. Damaged tube wells should be repaired.
2-Proper arrangements should be made for clean water and green fodder. If there is a shortage of fodder, then the straw should be moistened and bran mixed in it and given to the cows. Appropriate arrangements should be made to keep the cows in the shade.
3-The sides of sheds built in cow shelters should be covered with whatever is available, tarpaulin, sacks, sackcloth, etc. so that they can be protected from the heat and gusts of wind.
4-In case of death due to old age and serious illness, the dead body should be disposed of as per the prescribed procedure. Under no circumstances should the dead body be thrown here and there.
5-A special point is that daily and progressive information about the purchase of chaff should be given to the Directorate by 04:00 every day and the information should be made available to the government by the Bovine Protection Cell/ CPMU of the Directorate.
