The Government of Puducherry on April 08, 2024, issued a notification regarding the conservation and effective management of fishery resources for sea safety reasons.
The following has been stated: -
•A uniform ban on fishing by all fishing vessels (except traditional non-motorized units) in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) beyond territorial waters on the East Coast (including Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu) from April 15- June 14, 2024 (both days inclusive) (61 days) and West Coast (including Kerala) from June 01- July 31, 2024 (both days inclusive) (61 days), for conservation and effective management of fishery resources and for sea safety reasons.
•Therefore, to conserve marine fishery wealth and to regulate fishing on a scientific basis it has been informed that the fishing activities within the territorial waters of the Union Territory of Puducherry in the regions specified in Column (2) by the class of fishing vessels mentioned in Column (3) during the period specified in Column (4) of the Table given below is prohibited.
