The National Stock Exchange (NSE) on May 22, 2024, issued a notification regarding the Administrative actions for the shortfall in the networth of Trading Members.
•The exchange verifies the net worth of trading members during inspections of their records. If the net worth falls below the prescribed minimum requirement, the exchange initiates administrative action to mitigate residual risk.
•To address this, the exchange blocks a percentage of the trading member's average proprietary deposits or collaterals held with the Clearing Corporation in the previous calendar month. This blocking occurs two trading days after communicating the decision to the trading member.
•Exposure is not granted on these blocked deposits or collaterals at the trading member level. The exchange employs a graded mechanism, gradually increasing the percentage of deposits or collaterals blocked until the trading member's net worth shortfall is recouped to the satisfaction of the exchange.
•The objective is to ensure that trading members maintain adequate financial resources to meet their obligations and reduce systemic risk in the market.
