The Labour Department GNCT of Delhi on May 27, 2024, issued a circular regarding preventing heat waves in all the establishments/factories/shops/construction sites.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that adequate clean drinking water, cooler/fans, all fire-fighting equipment, and medical kit shall be available at the workplace.
• It states that there shall be a change in the shift of work as far as possible to avoid peak hours of 12 to 4 PM.
• It states that all electrical installation works in the NCT of Delhi shall be executed by a licensed Electrical Contractor.
• It states that flammable items such as flammable chemicals, solvents, etc. shall be kept in an isolated cool place and be handled by an authorized person.
• It states that after the completion of wiring, a general inspection shall be carried out by competent personnel to verify that all equipment, fittings, accessories, wires, and cables, used in the installation are of adequate rating and quality to meet the requirements of the load.
• It states that the supply of electricity to all electrical installations of 2 KW and above shall be controlled by a Residual Current Device (RCD) to protect against electric leakage.
• It states that arrangements shall be made for adequate emergency light as per the provisions of the National Electrical Code.
• It states that the owner of the electrical installation with more than 250 KW connected load shall designate an electrical safety officer, who has a degree in Electrical Engineering with at least five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical installations or a Diploma in Electrical Engineering with at least ten years of experience in operation and maintenance of electrical installations.
