The Government of Maharashtra on June 03, 2024, issued a notification regarding the establishment of standard guidelines for follow-up procedures for medical abortion beyond 24 weeks.
The following has been stated: -
•According to the annexure attached with this notification, the government has approved the Standard Operative Procedure for medical abortion after 24 weeks.
•Some of the guidelines are as follows: -
(i)Thorough history must be taken and documented including age and other factors of a woman.
(ii)A general physical examination must be done to assess physical fitness for termination.
(iii)Congenital malformations etc. for which the termination is indicated must be confirmed by reviewing the documents and available investigation reports and necessary investigations.
(iv)Counselling about the method of MTP and if in case of failure need for hysterotomy.
(v)The Medical Board will recommend the method of termination whether it would be surgical or medical in their opinion report.
