The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on June 03, 2024, issued an advisory to all private Satellite TV channel broadcasters, and Teleport Operators to refrain from the unfair practice of multiple uplinking of the permitted channels on multiple frequencies without the approval of the Ministry.
The Ministry has been informed that some news broadcasters, in an attempt to make their channels the most-watched, are engaging in unfair practices by uplinking their channels on multiple feeds. This results in the channels being available on multiple LCNs across various distribution platforms, thereby gaining an undue advantage in viewership.
To prevent such scenarios and ensure a level playing field, all permitted private satellite TV channel broadcasters are hereby advised to refrain from unauthorized uplinking of their TV channels on multiple frequencies without approval from the Ministry.
Furthermore, all Distribution Platform Operators (DPOs) are advised to ensure that each channel is placed uniquely in the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) following existing rules and regulations.
This directive is issued with the approval of the competent authority in the Ministry.
