The Central Marks Department (CMD) on May 09, 2024, issued the notification regarding the General Guidelines regarding the certification of Electric Fans.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The following Indian Standards for electric fans have been brought under mandatory BIS certification through Quality Control Orders notified by the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) namely: -
o IS 374 : 2019 – Specification for electric ceiling type fans and regulators (Third Revision) – This Indian Standard covers the performance requirements for single phase 50 Hz a.c. ceiling fans are driven by squirrel cage induction motor, capacitor type, and brushless d.c. motor fans up to and including 250 V for household and similar purposes.
o IS 302-2-80 : 2017 – Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety: Part 2 - 80 particular requirements for fans (First Revision) – This Standard covers the requirements of safety of electric fans for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. The following types of fans are covered in the scope of this standard: Ceiling fans; Duct fans; Partition fans; Pedestal fans; Table fans; and other fans
• In case a manufacturer is already having a valid licence for ceiling fans as per IS 374 : 2019, then for those varieties which are in the scope of licence, the requirements for IS 302-2-80 : 2017 shall be deemed to be complied.
• For ceiling fans that are not covered in IS 374 : 2019, licence shall be granted as per IS 302-2-80 : 2017.
• For other types of fans, i.e. Duct fans; Partition fans; Pedestal fans; Table fans,; other fans, licence shall be granted as per IS 302-2-80 : 2017.
