The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAHD) on June 05, 2024, issued the Draft Transport of Animals (Amendment) Rules, 2024 further to amend the Transportation of Animal Rules, 1978.
The following has been stated: -
•In Rule 2 after sub-rule (b) the following sub Rules shall be inserted namely: -
(c)“Jurisdictional Veterinary Officer”: means veterinarian employed by the state government or central government in the area who holds a degree from a recognized veterinary college and is registered with the state Veterinary council or veterinary council of India.
•For Rule 77 after sub-rule (c) the following shall be inserted namely: -
77(d) A valid health certificate as specified in Schedule L shall accompany each consignment, issued by a qualified Veterinary Surgeon to the effect that the Poultry is in a fit condition to transport by rails, road, or air and is not showing any sign of diseases.
•After Chapter VIII, the following chapter shall be instead a new chapter, namely: -
Chapter VIII A: Transportation of Camel by Rail or Road
Any person desiring to make any suggestion or objection in respect of the draft Rules may forward the same for consideration of the Central Government, within thirty days from June 07, 2024.
