Labour ComplianceThe Government of Rajasthan on June 11, 2024, issued a notification regarding Variable Dearness Allowance payable according to the Engineering Wage Board recommendations.

The new series of Consumer Price Index Numbers (Base 2016=100) for industrial workers has been in effect since September 2020, replacing the old series based on the years 1949, 1960, 1982, and 2001, which have been discontinued.

According to the recommendations of the Engineering Wage Board, the Variable Dearness Allowance is to be calculated based on the All India Consumer Price Index Numbers with the base year 1949=100. In the absence of this series, the Labour Bureau, Shimla, has provided linking factors: 2.88 between 2001 and 2016, 4.63 between 1982 and 2001, 4.93 between 1960 and 1982, and 1.2154 between 1949 and 1960. These factors are used to compute the All India Consumer Price Index Numbers with the base year 1949=100 for the period from October 2023 to March 2024.

The average index for the period from April 2023 to September 2023 was 10,942 points. For the subsequent period, from October 2023 to March 2024, the average index increased to 11,097 points. This represents a rise of 155 points in the average indices for the reviewed period compared to the previous period.
