The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on June 27, 2024, issued a notice inviting Stakeholders' Comments on the Basic Food Import Clearance Fee (BFICF).
The following has been stated: -
•As per Regulations 5(1) of Food Safety and Standards (Import) Regulations, 2017 "Upon the arrival of the food consignments at the port, the importer or Custom House Agent shall file an Integrated Declaration Form as specified by the Customs and shall pay non-refundable basic food import clearance fee as specified by Food Authority from time to time".
•Basic Food Import Clearance Foo (BFICF) shall subsume a visual inspection fee, testing fee, and other fees as decided by the Food Authority from time to time. This Basic fee is initially estimated as Rs.8400 applicable GST per Bill of Entry. This basic fee amount is revenue-neutral.
•Before implementation of the Basic Food Import Clearance Fee, as Rs. 8400 Applicable GST per bill of entry. The comments/suggestions, if any, are to be furnished in the prescribed format (Annexure-1) by July 15, 2024.
