The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on June 28, 2024, TRAI notified regarding the implementation of the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations, 2024 w.e.f. 00:00:00 hours of 01.07.2024.
This shall come into force on July 01, 2024.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It aims to curb mobile numbers' porting by way of fraudulent SIM swap/replacement by unscrupulous elements.
• It states that an additional criterion for rejecting the request for allocation of a Unique Porting Code (UPC) shall be introduced, and a UPC shall not be allocated if the request for the UPC has been made before the expiry of seven days from the date of SIM swap/replacement.
