The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) on July 04, 2024, issued a notification regarding the Enhancements to Address-Related Fields in GST Registration Functionalities.
Enhancements have been made to address related fields in registration functionalities such as New Registration, Amendment Application (Core & Non-Core), and Geocoding Business Addresses based on user feedback. These include:
Updated Address Validations:
•India: PIN Code, State, District, and City/Town/Village must be selected from autosuggestions. Other fields can include specific alphanumeric values and limited special characters but not at the beginning of the entry.
•Outside India: Zip Code, State, and District allow all values except certain special characters. Other fields have similar restrictions to those in India.
•Instructions: Hover icons provide clear guidelines on allowed and disallowed input values.
•Data Impact: Existing saved data is unaffected. However, during amendment applications, the address will be revalidated according to new rules.
•User Awareness: Changes address user confusion about allowable characters and field input methods, particularly the issue of starting entries with a hash (#).
•Applicable Users: Changes apply to Normal Taxpayers – Regular, SEZ Unit, SEZ Developer, Composition, Input Service Distributor, and Casual Taxpayers.
•Locality/Sub-locality Field: This field is optional. If left blank or mismatched with the PIN Code, warning messages prompt users to confirm saving the details to proceed.
These enhancements aim to streamline the process and improve user experience by providing clearer guidelines and validations for address input.
