The Government of Jharkhand on July 01, 2024, issued the Draft Jharkhand Platform Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare) Bill, 2024.
The following provisions have been stated:
• Rights to Gig Workers:
o Be registered with the State Government on being on boarded on any platform, irrespective of the duration of the work, and be provided a Unique ID applicable across all platforms;
o Have access to general and specific social security schemes based on contributions made as may be notified by the State Government;
o Access a grievance redressal mechanism as specified in Section 17;
Provided that nothing in this Act shall affect any benefit or protection accorded to platform based gig workers under any other law for the time being in force.
• Salaries and allowances:
o The nominated members of the Board shall be entitled for allowances for attending the meetings of the Board, at such rates as may be prescribed.
Any objection or suggestion which may be received from any person in respect to the said draft bill/Act before expiry of 15 days will be considered by the state government.
