The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on July 05, 2024, issued a circular regarding the e-LogBooks of pilots employed with scheduled air operators.
It is stated that Rule 67A of the Aircraft Rules, 1937 relates to Log Books of Flight Crew Personnel and logging of flight time. It stipulates that every member of the Flight Crew licensed under these rules shall maintain a personal log book, in the form and manner prescribed by the Director-General and all flight times shall be logged therein.
A huge number of logbook entries are performed by pilots each day and it has become necessary to digitalise the process of logging the flight hours of each pilot. Monitoring such logs is necessary for both operators and DGCA to maintain oversight.
The DGCA has provided e-LogBook on its eGCA platform with an option to automate the process of logging flight time, to reduce workload while ensuring accuracy & integrity. e-LogBook ensures legibility, accuracy and authenticity as all entries are double-checked and approved by the respective operators.
This circular lays down a standardized process for deriving flight time and other data from various operator systems, validation of such data, its verification and finally populating validated flight time and associated data onto the eGCA e-LogBook system.
This circular is currently applicable to scheduled air operators and their pilots.
