The Government of Tamil Nadu on July 11, 2024, issued the Tamil Nadu Prohibition (Amendment) Act, 2024 to further amend the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act, 1937.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Section 3 which states “Definitions” clause (12) has been substituted namely: -
“‘place’ includes also a house, shed, enclosure, building, shop, tent, booth, vehicle, cart and vessel;”.
• Section 4 which states “Prohibition of the manufacture of, traffic in, and consumption of liquor and intoxicating drugs” (1)(k) has been substituted namely: -
“being the owner of, or in-charge of, or having the management of, or in control of, or in possession of, a place, allows any of the acts specified in clauses (a) to (jj) upon such place;”.
• Section 5-A has been inserted namely: -
“Sealing of unlicensed places used for consumption of liquor”
It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification, appoint
