The Government of Karnataka on July 22, 2024, notified Karnataka Irrigation (Amendment) Act, 2024 further to amend the Karnataka Irrigation Act, 1965.
The following has been stated: -
•In section 6 in clause (b), for the figures, words, and brackets section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, the figures, words, and brackets section 11 of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act, 2013 shall be substituted.
•After section 28 following shall be inserted namely: -
Section 28A mentions the Grant of permit to extract and use groundwater within five hundred meters from the center of the lift irrigation scheme and irrigation canal or channel.
•In section 31 in subsection (3), for the word "fifteen", the word "thirty" and for the words The Deputy Commissioner of the district, the words the Chief Engineer of the Zone shall respectively be substituted.
The provisions of this Act shall apply to lift irrigation schemes and irrigation canals or channels only.
It shall come into force at once.
