The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on July 23, 2024, issued a Draft amendment to CAR Section 10 Series C Part I - Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).
The following has been stated namely: -
• The CORSIA scheme shall have mainly two design elements, viz., Monitoring, Reporting & Verification (MRV) for annual carbon emissions reporting to DGCA from international operations, and mandatory Offsetting for emissions exceeding baseline levels.
• Chapter 2 states about Administration, that as CORSIA applies to international flights only, all airplane operators shall identify their international flights using the ICAO Designator or the Registration Marks.
• Chapter 3 states about Monitoring of CO2 Emissions, that the requirements of this chapter shall apply to all aeroplane operators including scheduled, non-scheduled, cargo, general aviation, and private operators, producing annual CO2 emissions greater than 10,000 tonnes from international operations using an aeroplane(s) with a maximum certificated take-off mass greater than 5,700 kg, on or after January 01, 2019, onwards.
• Chapter 6 states about the Co2 Offsetting Requirements from International Flights, that the requirements shall be applicable from January 02, 2021, to December 31. 2035, and for Indian operators with international flights between India and other States, the offsetting requirements of this Chapter shall be applicable from January 01, 2027, onwards.
