The Government of Karnataka on July 24, 2024, issued the Karnataka Land Revenue (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024 to further amend the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964.
The following has been amended namely: -
• Section 7 which states “Appointment, duties and functions of Regional Commissioner” has been substituted to state “Appointment, duties and functions of Additional Chief Secretary/ Principal Secretary/Secretary”
• The following 2 new sections have been inserted namely: -
o Section 7A which states “Appointment, duties and functions of Revenue Commissioner”
o Section 7B which states “Appointment, duties and functions of Regional Commissioner”
• Section 14 which states “Officers to discharge duties during temporary vacancy” sub-section (1) has been substituted namely: -
“If the Revenue Commissioner is disabled from performing his duties, or is on leave or for any reason vacates his office or dies, the Regional Commissioner stationed at the headquarters of the Revenue Commissioner, shall unless other provision is made by the Government, succeed temporarily to his office and shall be deemed to be the Revenue Commissioner of the State under this Act, until the Revenue Commissioner resumes charge, or until the Government appoints a successor to the former Revenue Commissioner, and such successor takes charge of his appointment”
